Mammoth Lakes residents and visitors have several key updates regarding community services, recreational opportunities, and local infrastructure this October.

The Mammoth Lakes Parks and Recreation Department is offering a 50% discount on its annual memberships throughout the month of October. This special pricing is available exclusively for in-person purchases at the Parks and Recreation Department offices, located at the Community Recreation Center / LA Kings Ice at Mammoth Lakes (686 Old Mammoth Road). The offices are open for purchases Monday through Friday, between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. An annual membership provides unlimited access to Open Skate/Curl sessions at LA Kings Ice Mammoth Lakes, Open Swim (including Lap Swim) at the Whitmore Pool, and Open Play during the summer at the Mammoth RecZone. Members also benefit from additional perks, including complimentary events and various rental discounts. Families can take advantage of an offer allowing all children 17 years and younger to skate, swim, and play for free all year with two paid adult memberships. Alternatively, adults can skate this winter for only $30 a month. It is important to note that membership admission does not include Pick Up Hockey, Drop-In Curling, or Hockey/Curling/Skating Clinics at LA Kings Ice Mammoth Lakes.

Year-round air service between the Eastern Sierra Regional Airport in Bishop (BIH) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) commenced last month, marking a significant milestone for regional travel connectivity. United Airlines now operates this route on a four-season schedule, offering flights four days a week in spring and fall, and daily service in summer and winter. This change follows the airline’s transition from seasonal to year-round operation for the SFO route. Winter seasonal flights will continue to operate daily between Denver (DEN) and BIH. This expansion of air service reflects a coordinated effort among regional partners, with the Town being a part of the Eastern Sierra Air Alliance (ESAA). The ESAA is a collaborative group of local government and tourism organizations dedicated to developing and sustaining commercial air service across the region.

Residents of the Town of Mammoth Lakes are encouraged to mark their calendars for a free Electronic Waste and Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection event. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Mammoth Disposal transfer station, located at 59 Commerce Drive in Mammoth. This initiative is hosted in collaboration with Mammoth Disposal, ensuring that all accepted materials will be recycled at no charge. The event is open to all Town of Mammoth Lakes residents, though commercial or construction materials will not be permitted. For further information, residents can contact Mammoth Disposal directly at 760-934-2201 or visit MammothDisposal.com.

Maintenance was recently performed on the Mammoth Creek Park climbing boulder. A representative from Entre Prise, the boulder manufacturer, was on-site this week to complete necessary repairs. Damage and cracking on the boulder were identified earlier this year, attributed most likely to settling after installation and normal wear and tear. Repairs involved removing and replacing chipped sections, re-fiberglassing cracks, fixing the access panel, and touching up the paint.

Lastly, a portion of the Town Loop multi-use path near Mammoth Creek experienced a temporary closure this week. Mammoth Community Water District (MCWD) and its contractor performed essential sewer line rehabilitation in the section located behind Cerro Coso Community College and the Mammoth Lakes Library. The closure was in effect on Wednesday, October 7, and Thursday, October 8. Community members who navigated around this closure with the provided detour are thanked for their cooperation.
