The Fall Mammoth Trails Meeting is scheduled for this Wednesday, inviting recreation users to gather for an evening of updates, conversation, and planning for the future of the Mammoth Lakes Trail System. The gathering is open to all community members, serving as an opportunity to share ideas and discuss the various issues and opportunities that affect local trails.

Attendees will receive direct updates from key figures in local trail management. The Town Trails Manager and the USFS District Ranger are set to provide information on several important topics. These include what is next with SHARP, a recap of the summer season, and details concerning the Red’s Meadow Road Reconstruction project.

In addition to these direct reports, various recreation partners will also present updates. These partners include BLM in Bishop, Mono County Outdoor Recreation, the Whitebark Institute, NPS – Devil’s Postpile, Mammoth Lakes Trails and Public Access, and Tamarack Nordic Center. Further updates from other recreation partners are also anticipated during the meeting.

A special project designed to engage the community actively in trail development will also take place. The meeting will facilitate a brainstorming session for new trail names. With the recent completion of additional Sherwin Area trails, the community's input is sought to help name these new routes. Maps illustrating the new trail lines will be provided to attendees, allowing them to contribute their ideas. This participatory effort aims to involve recreation users directly in shaping the identity of the expanded local trail network.

To conclude the evening, a raffle will be held, courtesy of several sponsors. Participants will have the chance to win various prizes. These include Oakley bags, free admission to the Community Recreation Center/LA Kings Ice, and official Mammoth Lakes Trail System (MLTS) swag.

The meeting underscores an inclusive approach to trail system planning. Whether individuals are regular attendees or joining for the first time, all are welcome and encouraged to participate. Mammoth Trails provides a forum for all recreation users to share ideas and engage in discussions about the issues and opportunities that impact the local trails. For those seeking further details and additional information about the meeting, resources are available through the Town of Mammoth Lakes Office of Outdoor Recreation.
